Weekly Message from Head of School 2024/6/24-2024/6/27

2024-09-18

Dear Keystonians,

Happy Summer! I wish you all a restorative summer full of adventure and fun. Looking back on that was shaped by our theme of connections, I am amazed at all that our students and teachers have accomplished together. In each relationship built, challenge achieved, and lesson learned we have deepened our connections.

Our learning community flourished this week we ended on three and a half days of beautiful high notes. Everything from the sports and play days out on the field, to demonstrations of learning, packing up dorm rooms and saying goodbye to the friends who will not be with us when we gather again in August strengthened us. How we say goodbye matters.

To each of you, on behalf of the leadership team at Keystone, I say thank you! Thank you for all you have done to make Keystone’s 10th anniversary year the great success it has been.

Our theme for the 2024-2025 School year will be Belonging. I hope that the summer gives you time to reflect on this important focus for our school. First, all of you who are heading on to new adventures next year, will always be a part of the Keystone community. We hope that you always feel a sense of belonging in our school community and years from now when you see people from your Keystone time, you will look back on these years with fondness.

Those of us who return for the 2024-2025 school year will continue the work of ensuring that Keystone realizes its important mission for our students. In September, we will gather further community input on our emerging strategic plan. This plan will help set the school’s course for the next 4-5 years and help us frame our areas of focused improvement and development.

But first, let’s celebrate summer and all that comes with it. Please resist the temptation to feel too “productive” in the summertime. Let’s reflect on the words of the 19th century British scientist John Lubbock who said:

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.”

Take at least a few moments to enjoy this precious and shared journey on this fragile planet, none of us is here forever.

With love and appreciation,

Emily
