Interpretation of Su Dongpo's Life and Poem
Su Shi is an encyclopedic master in Chinese history, a cultural giant whose brilliance has endured through the millennia like a shining star. Engaging with and interpreting Su Shi is precisely the integration and embodiment of traditional Chinese culture and the Chinese Thread at Keystone.
In this two-week summer program, students will "time-travel" to the Northern Song Dynasty, following in Su Shi's footsteps and using his "life" and "poetry" as two guiding threads to perceive the life of this great poet and appreciate the unique charm of his poetry. Students will interpret Su Shi's personal charisma from various aspects, including his birth and family background, his career in the imperial examinations and officialdom, his exiles and life-changing turns, as well as the familial, friendly, and mentor-mentee relationships that spanned his life. At the same time, they will explore Su Shi's classic ancient poems from different periods and his attitudes towards life through reading, analysis, and discussion.
Over the two-week summer course, the children will grow alongside Su Dongpo, experiencing his versatility, poetic and artistic talents, and his optimistic and open-minded spirit. They will also learn to accept themselves, love life, and be brave and strong.
