A Decade of Walking with the World Newest Keystone Magazine chronicles the Academy’s first ten years

2024-11-28

The year 2024 marks a significant milestone in Keystone Academy’s history: it is the tenth year since the school’s establishment.

“Ten years” carries a mysterious aura and can be interpreted from various perspectives. It may highlight growth by the numbers, and even a quantifiable buildup of successes and celebrations. It may even preview a sense of inheritance and renewed optimism for the intangible outcomes that will follow in the succeeding years.

Numerous Keystone community members have brought the school’s educational ideals to life in the past decade. Their actions collectively elevated the institution to a renowned new world school.

To commemorate this special occasion, the twelfth The Keystone Magazine issue highlights the school’s tenth anniversary celebrations. In her foreword, Executive Head of School Dr. Emily McCarren reflects on Keystone’s evolution over the past decade, sharing that Keystone has not only “become one of the most notable schools in China” but also an institution whose identity as a new world school has been lauded for “doing brave things for its talented and fortunate students”.

“And, because of our extraordinary students, kind and warm families, and talented faculty and staff, it is known as a wonderful place to learn and to work. […] This unity in beautiful diversity is a founding principle of Keystone Academy, and one of its greatest strengths. While we release ourselves to the individual experience, we are also all connected. We are connected backwards and forwards in time; we are connected to each other, even if we were never on campus together. We are connected in ways that have meaning that we can comprehend right now, and in ways whose meaning may reveal itself later.”

The issue’s cover story takes readers behind the scenes of the 10th Anniversary Charity Gala, revealing the creative processes and emotional journeys of teachers and students involved in dance performances, musical compositions, and dramatic productions. Through “A Decade of Hopes, Dreams, and Vision”, we present a timeline illustrating the implementation and achievements of Keystone’s educational philosophy over these ten years, illuminating the essence of our educational ideals.

As Keystone Academy’s in-house publisher, the Office of Marketing and Communications (OMC) has produced twelve comprehensive editions of The Keystone Magazine in the past ten years. These chronicles have featured over twenty columns, compiled the stories of more than fifty students, and presented insights from over twenty distinguished personalities and leading experts who have visited Keystone. The OMC has also spoken to numerous Keystone teachers and students whose educational experiences, practices, and personal reflections have brought life to this publication.

Ten years and twelve issues of The Keystone Magazine encapsulate both the substance and evanescence of time. Indeed, the past decade yielded countless vibrant and touching stories, and the educational significance and ideals behind these personal tales and community accounts embody the Keystone spirit we aspire to document and pass on continuously.

In this newest issue, we invite readers to reflect on Keystone’s decade of growth and look forward to another period when more stories will unfold and show us an even more promising future.

The Keystone Magazine is a space to reflect as our journey continues, progresses, and evolves. Through this publication, Keystone invites everyone to witness the growth of a new world school and the making of generations of new world thinkers.
