Philosophy Is a Verb – Keystone Education Salon with Zhou Lian
On May 7, we will be honored to welcome Professor Zhou Lian in the School of Philosophy at Renmin University of China as a guest speaker at the Keystone Education Salon, hosted at Keystone Academy. His talk, titled “Philosophy is a Verb”, will focus on three ideas: “unlocking”, “seeing clearly”, and “耻苍诲别谤蝉迟补苍诲颈苍驳”. Using examples, questions, and thought experiments, Professor Zhou will guide us through an evening of reflection and discussion, a night of intellectual exchange.
As a young scholar, writer, and translator with rich experience in philosophical research and education, Professor Zhou draws inspiration from everyday life. He begins with concrete, real-world situations and events, weaving details from daily experience into his explanations. He conveys complex philosophical ideas with clarity and precision, avoiding grand narratives. Instead, he emphasizes the connection between philosophical inquiry and individual destiny. In his view, “Although philosophy may change the world in indirect and roundabout ways, for ordinary people like us, its greatest value lies in the comfort it offers each individual.”
We believe that philosophical discussion will always be essential, both as an academic discipline and as a way of thinking. Through continuous questioning, humanity aspires to the starry heavens and the moral law within us. As Immanuel Kant put it, these “two things fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the more often and steadily we reflect upon them.”
